BRIDGE OVER THE KALININGRAD BAY

LARGEST CONCESSION PROJECT IN KALININGRAD REGION

The construction of a bridge over the Kaliningrad Bay is provided for by the master plan for the regional capital’s development until 2035. This is the largest concession project in the Kaliningrad region and the first one under a private concession initiative. The concession agreement was signed on June 7, 2019. The concession grantor is the Government of the Kaliningrad Region, VIS Group is the concessionaire.

Such a large-scale project is of strategic importance for the region. The new bridge will connect the villages of Kosmodemyansky and Shosseiny. All of the road infrastructure, including the bridge over the Pregol River, approaches, overpasses and interchanges will span approximately 8 kilometers. The high-speed four-lane road will become part of the ring route in the Primorsky recreation zones.

The construction of a bridge across the Kaliningrad Bay is slated to be completed in 2024 using proprietary and borrowed funds of the VIS Group. The total concession period (including 5 years and 3 months of construction) is 28 years. During this period, the concessionaire will carry out the technical and commercial operation of road infrastructure.

The construction of the bridge will allow to loop the Ring Road, connect Kaliningrad’s Southern and Northern Bypasses, and reduce the distance between settlements.

Project implementation will create an opportunity for traffic flows from the northwest of the region to access a branch of the trans-European transport corridor 1-A Riga – Kaliningrad – Gdansk, improve the area’s transport accessibility and allow to divert the heavy vehicle transit traffic from Kaliningrad.
